Prof. Hiroki Ago

In our laboratory, we are developing new synthesis methods of novel nanomaterials and applications to energy, environment, and electronics based on nanotechnology. Our research focuses mainly on nanocarbon materials, novel two-dimensional layered materials, and their heterostructures. Low-energy consumption electronics and photovoltaic cells are made from these new and unique nanomaterials. We have recently organized new KOINE platform on two-dimensional materials, called “Nanofoundary”. Throughout our intensive research activity, we would like to organize and take part in collaborative international projects.

Research topics

  1. Development of new nanomaterials synthesis methods
    • large-area, extremely high-quality graphene
    • CVD growth of 2D atomic layers of transition metal dichalcogenides and related new materials
    • CVD growth and applications of hexagonal boron nitride atomic sheets
    • Various two-dimensional heterostructures
  2. Applications of nanomaterials to energy, environment, and electronics
    • Energy-related devices with 2D materials, such as ultra-low energy device and photovoltaic cells
    • Wearable devices and other human interface applications with low-dimensional nanomateria

KOINE Research Platform:NanoFoundry

We aim to build a new platform based on 2D materials, represented by graphene with industry and public sector for realizing open innovation.
